Singapore Chamber of Maritime Arbitration Conference

SCMA Conference 2019

1. Introduction

Singapore Chamber of Maritime Arbitration’s (“SCMA”) first decennial conference, “The Race to Relevance”, held last Friday at Conrad Centennial Hotel was attended by the team, Eugene, Suang, Jing Yen, and Syazana.

2. Background

The SCMA 10th Anniversary Conference was packed with keynote speeches and panel discussions on the global maritime industry by experienced industry professionals, thought leaders and legal practitioners alike.

One of the keynote speeches was delivered by the Guest-of-Honour, The Honourable the Chief Justice Sundaresh Menon, addressing the delegates on the topic of “Charting the Singapore Maritime Adventure – Are we there yet?” In his opening address, CJ highlighted two key areas in which the SCMA can have a significant role to play: (1) SCMA’s leadership to look more closely at the case for and against a right of appeal on a point of law arising out of maritime arbitration; and (2) to explore the use of mediation as a complementary form of dispute resolution amongst its members. His full speech can be found here.

3. Conclusion

Eugene Thuraisingam LLP is proud to be the platinum sponsor of this conference and join SCMA in its celebration of this momentous occasion.

Congratulations to SCMA on its 10th Anniversary!
