Train with us

Solving problems, building relationships

Our key service lies in solving our clients’ predicaments in the course of the commercial disputes or criminal proceedings they are involved in. Hence, our work often requires a combination of these attributes:

  • professional skills (including legal, advocacy and negotiation skills);
  • interpersonal skills necessary to build the trust and confidence of our clients and those who deal with us;
  • practical understanding of the business environments in which our clients operate;
  • second-language proficiency for cross-border matters;
  • an interest in the law and the work we do;
  • most importantly, a strong ethical compass in all our dealings.

Our continuing task as a firm is to maintain a strong and stable team of professionals dedicated to the above attributes and values.

Our role in the administration of justice

Since our founding, we have played our unique role in the administration of justice in Singapore. Access to justice is a cherished aspect of our practice.

We have had honour of breaking ground in the following litigation (amongst others):

Our role in the administration of justice also extends to some of our commercial disputes. For example, on occasion we have had to litigate against financial institutions. In this case, we secured a SGD 3.4 million judgment in our client’s favour. We also persuaded the Court of Appeal that Singapore law should recognise that a former employer owes former employees a duty of care to be fair and not just factually accurate in providing references to prospective employers.

Training with us

Our trainees gain practical experience from day one in the cut-and-thrust of disputes.

Through close mentorship by your supervising solicitors and seniors, we will build on your university education and guide you on:

  • “hard” skills related to legal practice, counsel advocacy and other professional skills;
  • “soft” skills related to the art of building relationships with clients and peers.

In regular one-to-one meetings, we will work with you as you develop your foundation for professional growth and practice-building.

Dispute resolution is by its nature fast paced and outcome oriented. Despite that, you will find yourself practising in a nurturing, collegial and compassionate environment.

Our secondary seat will be focused on general corporate & commercial practice. The aim of the secondary seat is to further immerse you in the nuts-and-bolts of commercial deals and to familiarise you with the business environments in which our clients operate.

What we look for in candidates

We recognise that there is no perfect mould in which our candidates should be cast. In selecting our candidates, we look favourably upon experiences demonstrating these attributes:

  • intellectual rigour;
  • willingness to learn;
  • resilience in the face of setbacks;
  • interest in specific areas of law or legal practice.

Whilst not a compulsory requirement, we also generally take interest in specific experiences are not often seen in other law students (for example, participation in non-law CCAs or sales experience).

Proficiency in a second language is also a plus factor.
