Asset Recovery Asia 2023

Asset Recovery Asia 2023 was held in Kuala Lumpur and attended by litigators, insolvency practitioners and forensic accountants from across the globe. The conference had a heavy focus on international fraud litigation, restructuring and insolvency, and cryptocurrency litigation.

Eugene Thuraisingam LLP partner Chooi Jing Yen spoke on a panel titled “Defending the Indefensible” which considers fraud litigation from a defendant’s perspective. With both the Singapore International Commercial Court (SICC) and the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC) gaining prominence, the number of complex international disputes being litigated in Singapore as a jurisdiction has been steadily increasing. The Rules of Court 2021 has also cemented the Singapore court’s strong encouragement to parties to mediate their disputes, even before litigation is commenced. This has a significant impact on litigation and pre-litigation strategy for both claimants and defendants.

Building on Eugene Thuraisingam LLP’s expertise in white collar investigations and complex commercial litigation, Jing Yen spoke about some of the strategies and tips that a defendant in fraud litigation may employ.

The panel was moderated by Wendy Lin (WongPartnership LLP) and Ros Prince (Stephenson Harwood LLP) and included co-panelists Andy McGregor (Allen & Overy) and Sarocha Thongperm (Weerawong, Chinnavat & Partners).
